Excellent capture, a beautiful scene with excellent lighting, and your manipulations of it create a beautiful hauntingly serene image.
The depleted saturation gives a sense of quietude with the blues and greens creating a nice bounce against the stark silhouette of the tree itself. The vignette is nice, especially as it is weaker in the top left corner, lending itself nicely to the strong reading diagonal of the image. The angle of the trunk of the tree also assists in the composition, pulling the directionality of the image into the lower right corner, bounced back by the perfect vertical of that sapling.
There is a little ambiguity in the tone and composition of the image though, when looking at it, I'm not sure whether to feel comfortable or uncomfortable. As this in and of itself creates a feeling of discomfort, that is the direction I will assume you were headed. The partially off perceived horizon adds to the unease of the image, but it would be better if it did NOT follow the diagonal and instead opposed it. Also, while the body of the tree is centered the focal point is further off to the right, pulling attention out of the tree and into that now seemingly unnecessarily large negative space of the plain. If I were to re-frame or re-shoot this it would be with an un-centered tree, and a little more panoramic in feeling (perhaps with the tree on the second seventh from the right) to enhance that feeling of emptiness and solitude.
A very beautiful image, but the elements could be better implemented to a unifying concept .
(On a design note, you signature in that tiny border is exceedingly uncomfortable. We need a larger border so that there is some margin for the text. How different this image would be with a white vignette on a white border.)
Very beautiful image. I love the softness that you have achieved by putting the image in a vignette. Background foggy areas helps keep the focal point in sharp focus and holds the viewers interest well.
Foreground soft greens add a nice contrast to the photo and helps bring the look together. Tone of the capture gives this a fantasy look. The darker tree with its branches outstretched looks as though it is hanging on for life and the tilted angle helps to add interest also. Very well focused image and use of lighting is well handled. Overall, a very good presentation.
